FAQ

What Should I Wear?

“It’s cooler by the lake” and weather can change quickly! Be prepared, be safe, be happy.

  • Comfortable clothing and soft-soled shoes or sandals.

  • Sun protection like hat, glasses, sunscreen, long-sleeved TShirt.

  • A windbreaker or sweatshirt.

  • For evenings or mild days- long pants, sweatshirt or fleece, warm hat, raincoat.

  • Swimsuit and towel, for trips that may provide sunbathing/swimming options

What Can I Bring on Board?

We recommend bringing a snack, drink or small meal (depending on type of sailing trip). While it’s advisable not to eat too much all at once, you’ll want a snack at least. Alcohol is permitted, though not recommended in large quantity. On return to the dock, or if conditions on the lake permit, we can have a full picnic on the boat. What a setting for a meal!

  • Ice is available at the harbor and there is a large cooler on board. Additional small coolers are permitted on board.

  • Pre-prep food when possible (wash fruit & veggies, make sandwiches, etc.)

  • Ginger chews or anti-nausea remedy, if you are prone to motion-sickness

  • Carry on, carry out! Please be prepared to take it all with you when you leave, thanks!

What else do I need to know?

One hand on the boat at all times! Please contact us if you have specific concerns, needs or requests. We aim to provide a safe and pleasant experience for everyone.

  • Arrive at the boat no later than 15 minutes prior to your departure time, so that you can begin the boarding process. During peak times, the shuttle service at the harbor gets busy and there can be a wait to get to the boat.

  • For safety reasons no children under 10 years old; all passengers must be steady on their feet, as boat access requires passage on a dinghy shuttle service.

  • Weather delays and cancellations happen. We will work with you on timing and rescheduling, if necessary.

  • Safety equipment is provided at no charge (life vests, drinking water)

  • No smoking below deck; above deck only with captain’s approval.

  • There are facilities on board and ashore at the harbor for restroom, changing room, and handwashing.

  • A 50% deposit will be required to make your booking. This is fully refundable up to 2 weeks prior to sail. In the event of late cancellation 48 hours or less, this is not refundable. (does not apply to weather-related) Full payment due by departure/castoff from the dock.

  • “Spirit” is located at Wilmette Harbor, nestled under the Baha’i Temple of Worship. See the map, below. Parking at the harbor is for club members only, we apologize there are no passes available. Unload at the harbor and park in adjacent Gillson Park, or street parking in the area.
